George Santos Public Anger Unlikely to Do Him Good

George Santos is not doing his name any favors

When Rep. George Santos is in the news, it’s not usually for something positive. The latest report however might take the cake, so to speak. Take a look at the following headline at Business Insider:

George Santos says he'll treat expulsion as a ‘badge of honor’ as he claims his colleagues are drunkenly having sex with lobbyists ‘every night’

Media reports are that Santos is expected to be expulsed from the House of Representatives and Santos himself says yes, that is likely to happen but that he’s not worried, reports Bryan Metzger.

Santos said he expects to suffer a bad ending when the House votes on the matter. He attempts to show that he is at peace with it yet his words seem to dictate otherwise.

“You want to expel me? I’ll wear it like a badge of honor. I’ll be the sixth expelled member of Congress in the history of Congress. And guess what? I'll be the only one expelled without a conviction,” he retorted.

Santos may be disguising his fear and anxiety with arrogance yet he truly might be confident that he is a victim of a witch hunt and that any action against him is unjust. If it is the latter, maybe presenting himself this way publicly, even if understandable, is dangerous business for future and how he may be judged and punished.

He additionally said of Republican chairman of the House Ethics Committee — Rep. Michael Guest of Mississippi, that Guest needs to “stop being a pussy.”

Yes, unprofessional and it leaves Santos open for criticism of his mental health. His reactionary communication is unhelpful and will only increases the intensity of media coverage and the reputation it and the public have of him.

Still not done, Santos throws wild accusations that his colleagues are “hypocrites” who are regularly cheating on their spouses and giving more energy to that scurrilous behavior than responsibly working.

“I have colleagues who are more worried about getting drunk every night with the next lobbyist that they’re gonna screw and pretend like none of us know what’s going on, and sell off the American people, not show up to vote because they’re too hungover or whatever the reason is, or not show up to vote at all and just give their card out like fucking candy for someone else to vote for them,” Santos ranted. “This shit happens every single week. Where are the ethics investigations?”

Maybe this is factual and true. Maybe Santos has done the media and public a favor by revealing or confirming this is reality. Yet how does it look in general and make him look that he reports this scandalous behavior when the media scrutiny has been focused on Santos for his own misbehavior?

That’s a rhetorical question. Santos thinks he’s redirecting the media’s attention to Congress for some groundbreaking news when really what is doing is escalating the negativity about him, concerns about his character and what’s going to happen next to him.

What Santos says about some leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives is not quite shocking or new. Why he thinks it will help shift media attention away from him is puzzling. Santos knows he’s in trouble.

Yes, other leaders are unethical and immoral yet that doesn’t give Santos a figurative pass for his own misdeeds. And he knows it.

He’s emotionally, psychologically desperate and acting that way. He’s hurting himself the most with his uncontrolled anger and resentment.
